SOUND AND MUSIC: NOTES [2002-2018]
From the United Kingdom to Japan, Indonesia, Japan again and then back to Europe, this body of work represents a 16-year period of study and travel. Each project expresses a style or idea I was interested in exploring at the time; from electronica, ambient and computer music through to traditional Japanese and Javanese performance practices, soundscape composition, improvisation, noise, collage, field recordings and film sound. The period is marked by experimention and discovery; trying things out to see where they could go. At certain times this took place within a university, music classes or through private training with a teacher. The rest of time things just happened organically through play and general tinkering. Looking back I think what unifies these projects is an interest in the intersection between music and sound, signal and noise - ideas I continue to explore today through my work as a sound designer.
