The Cinema of Noise series marches on, now up to #42. Recent additions include stuff from mainstream Hollywood through to European Arthouse and Asian cinema. Gus Van Sant's Elephant (2003) is interesting when it comes to the use of sound. There's definitely alot of potential in the use of pre-existing music-sound compositions (particular modern or experimental) in films, discovering unusual audio-visual combinations that might not normally be found when working in a more conventional way. See/hear Peter Strickland's films for other fascinating examples of this approach.
